Yakutsk: In the Footsteps of Unrest

В Yakutsk Today, a spontaneous protest took place, provoked by the death of a 26-year-old local resident (he was fatally stabbed Muhamed Odinaev, an ethnic Tajik, a citizen of Russia).

There was no mobile internet in the city until late in the evening, reports a NeMoskva correspondent from YakutskMessengers only worked through a VPN. Online payments were impossible. Several grocery stores in the city were closed. At one store, the windows were smashed and the merchandise was scattered.

Due to interruptions in mobile phone service, people reported that they were unable to pay for rides on city buses with transport and bank cards.

Commenters on Telegram channels mostly complained about domestic problems caused by the lockdowns, with some advising migrants not to leave their homes for now. Others suggested sending those involved in the clashes to war.

X users, who are primarily used by urban youth in the region, sharply condemned the spontaneous protest:

"Will the internet be cut off after every fight now?" one of the Twitter users was outraged.

Around nine o'clock in the evening Yakutsk time, the internet was restored and is working as usual.
