This is what a book, reaching forward through time, was meant to be. A collection of Vladimir Mayakovsky's poems was designed (exactly like this) by the artist and architect El Lissitzky in Berlin in 1923. This work became both a manifesto of constructivism and a demonstration of the possibilities of the new art. The newly published facsimile reprint will surely appeal to connoisseurs and collectors of paper books. The first volume contains the collection itself, the second contains commentary, responses from contemporaries, and Lissitzky's autobiography. A hundred years later, the voice of the supposed Soviet distant future, which arrived in a form not entirely expected, is especially interesting to hear.
