"A Shortcut to Solving the Problem." Region Seven May Pass Law on Euthanasia of Homeless Animals

The issue of euthanasia of homeless animals was discussed at a meeting of the public commission under the committee Samara Provincial Duma for local government.

They expressed the idea that the CVR (catch-vaccination-sterilization-release) method has proven to be ineffective, so it is time to use others.

"After capture, the animal is taken to a temporary holding facility for 30 days. If no one comes to claim it during this time, euthanasia is performed. If the animal shows aggression toward humans, it is immediately euthanized. This is also planned to stop physical suffering due to illness or injuries incompatible with life." — about the proposed new measures сообщил "Notepad. Samara."

Acting Head of the Regional Veterinary Department Dmitry Shinkevich cited figures in favor of the new bill: in the Samara region there are over 19,5 thousand stray dogs, 6800 of which - on the streets of Samara.

In addition, in 2022, it was recorded 6166 affected from dog bites, 2000 of which are children.

In the "Bloknot. Samara" poll, 87,83% of subscribers voted "for" the bill.

However, some subscribers were outraged: "Just find a shortcut to solving the problem. There's no need to invest in shelters, there's no need to treat them, it's easier to kill them." "You can't build a society on the tears and bones of innocent creatures."

The bill was sent back for revision.

Let us recall that the State Duma deputy Vladimir Burmatov explained, why euthanasia of stray animals will be even more ineffective than the OSVV. However, such a law has already been passed in Astrakhan и Altai region, Buryatia, Transbaikalia, Tuva и Magadan.
