Belgorod is short of shelters: residents are afraid to walk the streets and are asking for additional concrete modules to be installed.

Belgorod residents are sharing stories on social media about how they experienced shelling while outside, and are also criticizing the modular shelters installed in January.

"To say we were shocked by the shelter is an understatement... Not only is it small, but it also has no roof. How could anyone even build something like that? It's also very small. People who couldn't fit into the shelter were standing at the bus stop, surrounded by glass."— the Belgorod resident wrote Love.

"An open area of almost 600 meters along Gorky Street. Last Thursday, as I was walking to work in the morning, the shelling started. And there was nowhere to go. The doors to the prosecutor's office, naturally, were locked."“- said another city resident. "I go to work, and there's nowhere to hide either. It's a big intersection between Korolev and Vatutina. I walk and pray every time."— the Belgorod resident wrote Mayan.

People say they now plan their routes with hiding spots in mind, but this isn't always possible. They believe more shelters are needed near bus stops, at major intersections, at car markets, and elsewhere.

Governor of the region Vyacheslav Gladkov believes that it is impossible to install so many shelters because the city is large.

Reinforced concrete modules have begun to be installed in Belgorod After 25 people were killed in a shelling attack in late December, the city also began installing special controllers in apartment building entryways in February to allow doors to open during a missile threat. However, this system isn't yet operational everywhere.

"We were just walking the dog when the shelling started. There was no cover nearby. We ran to the nearest house, but everything was locked, including the basement. We managed to find some cover in the corner of the house…", a local resident reported.

Belgorod has been subjected to regular shelling for ten days now.
