For the sixth day, Amur miners have been trapped under rubble at the Pioneer mine.

All this time there has been no contact with the 13 miners, and the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has still not been able to reach them. 

According to the agency, mine rescuers continue to build water-resistant barriers, monitor water levels around the clock, and remove rock debris. 

“Four exploratory wells have already been drilled: the first at 223 meters out of 262, the second at 124 meters out of 205 meters, the third at 84 meters out of 160, and the fourth at 43 meters out of 350 meters,” — the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reports, specifying that drilling of the first well is scheduled to be completed today.

A ground-penetrating radar is planned to be installed in the quarry above the mine to monitor the situation. Governor Vasily Orlov explained that it will help quickly assess the condition of rock masses, ice, and water, and prevent them from sliding and entering the mine.

Collapse at gold mine in Amur area The disaster occurred on the evening of March 18. A rock collapse occurred in a mine adit at the Pioneer plant. A state of emergency was declared in the region. Rescue operations at the open pit mine are continuing around the clock, and specialists from other regions of the country have arrived to assist the Amur rescuers.
