"From the victims of the NKVD, KGB, and FSB." A memorial plaque to Andropov was unveiled at Petrozavodsk University.

A memorial plaque was unveiled in honor of the 110th anniversary of the birth of the Soviet-era political figure. Yuri AndropovHe ruled the country for 15 months until 1984, having previously headed the KGB for 15 years. Few people wanted to attend the ceremony, so they were selected through quotas.

"On behalf of the First Vice-Rector, I am sending quotas for participation by employees of your departments in the unveiling of the Andropov memorial plaque. Please ensure attendance." such a postdoe received by the employees.

Later, the university website appeared reporteds: "Andropov occupies a special place among the historical figures who left their mark on the modern history of our country, Karelia, and Petrozavodsk State University. A significant part of the biography of this Soviet statesman and party leader is directly connected to Karelia."

Petrozavodsk already has a monument to Andropov. It was erected 20 years ago opposite the republic's FSB building. A scandal erupted during the unveiling: several young people attempted to lay wreaths at the monument with mourning ribbons bearing the inscriptions: "From the victims of the NKVD-KGB-FSB," "From grateful Hungarians," and "From the victims of the war in Afghanistan." They were stopped by police and state security officers.

In syujete about the opening of the sculpture monument Mikhail Koppalev He told me with a smile how "My grandfather was taken away at the suggestion of the Komsomol members, and he disappeared there, he is no longer there.", but "History is a story in which there are many characters".

Andropov is remembered as the initiator of the war in Afghanistan, a fighter against dissent, corruption, and also truants and parasites. He promoted the slogan: "Working hours for work!" This even went so far as to conduct surveys on the streets and in movie theaters during working hours, asking where citizens worked and what jobs they did.

The glorification of the NKVD and KGB is gaining momentum in the regions. For example, at the Ryazan celebration of Russia Day, an "NKVD officer" spent in andquiz for children and their parents, and the holiday itself was organized by the regional Federal Penitentiary Service.
