Marriage + child = room, money, and support: State Duma deputies are discussing new social scholarships for students.
The new scholarship will be awarded to university students who have married during their studies and have a minor child or minor children, says in the explanatory note to the bill introduced by LDPR deputies. Single parents, guardians, and trustees will also be eligible for the stipend.
“The specified scholarship for this category of students is subject to assignment regardless of the form of students’ education – at the expense of budgetary allocations from the federal budget or on a paid basis,” the deputies explain.
The bill also proposes allowing universities to create childcare facilities and providing priority and free dormitory rooms to student families.
"I interact a lot with students and young people during my work trips around the regions. We often talk about life plans and prospects," says the leader of the LDPR Leonid Slutsky. "Many of the students already have families, have become parents, and some are planning to. Additional support measures in the form of dorm accommodations and social stipends will be a great help, and will encourage others to start a family or have their first child."
It is known that changes are proposed to be made to the Law on Education.
