Residents of Vladikavkaz have united to protect the coastal area near a city reservoir: an investor wants to build a hotel and water park there.
The renovated recreation area, known locally as the Water Station, opened less than two months ago. It was funded by the public sector. strengthened shore, improved the beach, installed sports grounds, drinking fountains and toilets.
The place is already extremely popular: on hot days people come here arrives up to four thousand people.
The fact that this place has attracted investors for the construction of a water park and a nine-story hotel complex does not please all city residents: within a day petition A petition against the development has collected almost a thousand signatures. People are most concerned about the cutting down of the trees that grow here. Residents have already united to an initiative group to fight for the salvation of the Water Station at the official level: complaints have been sent to the Prosecutor General's Office, the government, and the parliament of the republic.
The petition's authors point out that the decision to build the hotel has already undergone public hearings, which officials failed to properly notify.
"We have been deprived of our legal right to express our opinion regarding this development," the petition emphasizes. "The insatiability and greed of the interested parties are depriving us of the healthy environment guaranteed by Article 42 of the Constitution."
It is noteworthy that at the public hearings there was opposition to the construction of the hotel and water park were made members of the Union of Architects. However, the investor Victor Kambolov insists that "the complex will be a new word in the region's architecture, will advance the republic's tourism industry, will attract large investments and create new jobs."
According to the head of North Ossetia Sergei Menyailo, the final decision on the construction of the hotel and water park is still not accepted.
