"The storks have united us all." Residents of the Tver village of Koy have been raising orphaned chicks for over a month. 

On June 23, the VKontakte public group "Koy Village and Its Environs" reported that a pair of storks that had built a nest on the roof of a destroyed church had met with disaster: the female died after colliding with high-voltage wires. 

The villagers decided to take care of the widowed stork and his three chicks. They quickly built a ladder to the roof, placed a box with the sign "For Storks' Feeding" in the local store, and used the money raised to regularly feed the storks fish and chicken heads.

Every day, a report on events appears on the public page—villagers monitor how the growing chicks are learning to fly and inquire about their health and appetite: 

"About our storks. Day thirty-six of feeding and observation. There were two storks on the nest: Firstborn and Afterborn. When we took off, Firstborn flew away, but Afterborn sat there. I kept coaxing her, and lo and behold, the little girl flew away! Hurray!" 

The page's host writes that he didn't expect such a lively participation from everyone—"both acquaintances and strangers, locals, and even people who'd never been to our ancient village!" He says people's faces began to light up when they looked at the chicks. 

"The storks really brought us all together, and the concept of the 'Koi Community' emerged, a common chat where many pressing issues are resolved.", - says one of the recent messages. 

Now the chicks are grown and about to fly away. The chat is full of discussions about what to do with the remaining money. One suggestion: buy birdhouse materials and gather in the evenings to craft colorful birdhouses.
