Is Batman a hero? Dagestani imams asked this question.
In a podcast episode recorded a month ago, local preachers discussed the ban on niqabs and the issue of chasing likes.
The guest of the program is a theologian Muhammadrasul Gimbatov He compared people who strive for popularity to the superhero Batman. He claimed he didn't fight crime at all, and that he'd be better off building schools.
"Who is Batman? This man can transform Gotham [the fictional city where the character lives] with his billions, with social programs; with that kind of money, he could eradicate crime completely. And what does he do? Dress up as a bat and run across rooftops at night, catching freaks. To the people, he's a superhero. In reality, what has he done for society? Has he built a school, a hospital, a college? He could put an end to crime simply by rewarding the police. He doesn't want crime to disappear, you understand?", says Gimbatov.
As it turns out, the podcast was recorded a long time ago, but the video went viral on social media. The Dagestan Muftiate explained that they were delighted by the video's popularity and noted that its main purpose is to benefit people.
"The main thing is that it's useful. You found it interesting, right? You saw the Batman story differently, didn't you? The goal isn't making shows or podcasts themselves, but rather making people benefit, making them interested, making them watch. There's a lot of content and material out there right now, including religious material, and when someone can convey it so interestingly, usefully, and correctly, we're also happy about that, of course, and we try to make things that are interesting.",” the publication “Podyom” quotes the muftiate as saying.
