Family legend has it that in 1903, my father, then still a young man, saved my mother. It was in Baku; she was two years old, playing on the embankment, and fell into the sea. He pulled her out. Daughter Sergei Alliluyev, one of the first members of the RSDLP. From his gypsy great-grandmother he inherited his "southern features" and "black eyes." In Petersburg, Where we moved, my father worked at a power plant, we were not poor.
In July 1917, during the crisis of “dual power”, the Alliluyevs hid Lenin. And in August they took me in Stalin. The 38-year-old widower, who had returned from Siberian exile, was pleasant to talk to and read Chekhov aloud.
Sixteen-year-old Nadya fell in love. They began living together. In 1919, they married. She kept her maiden name.
She worked in Lenin's secretariat. In 1921, she gave birth to a son, Vasily. Soon after, the young mother was expelled from the party for passivity. Lenin petitioned for her readmission.
I was very afraid of becoming a simple housewife:
If you don't work, you're already a "woman" <> You definitely need to have a specialty that allows you to not be at anyone's beck and call
In 1926, she gave birth to a daughter. Svetlana recalled that the only person her father feared was her mother.
The marriage was difficult. They argued. Nadezhda suffered from constant migraines.
In 1929, she entered the Industrial Academy, studying synthetic fibers. Some say that while studying, through her interactions with students, she began to understand what was happening in the country.
In 1932, at a banquet in honor of the 15th anniversary of the revolution, she did not react to Stalin’s toast. "for the destruction of the enemies of the Soviet state." He shouted "Hey!" and threw a crust of bread. She replied, "I didn't say 'Hey!' to you," and walked away.
On the night of November 9, she shot herself. The cause of death was listed as appendicitis.
The daughter wrote that her father viewed her mother's departure as a betrayal. He became embittered. But, in Svetlana's opinion, there could be no bright future:
It is impossible to imagine her remaining silent while seeing her best old friends perish - Bukharin, Yenukidze, Redens, both Svanidzes <> she would not have survived it
