FSIN doctors confirmed that the person in pre-trial detention center No. 1 Khabarovsk political prisoner Zakhar Zaripov He should not be in custody. He has stage IV parotid gland cancer—a medical commission has determined that this condition will prevent him from serving his sentence.

As told NotMoscow lawyer Zaripova Konstantin Bubon, in early October he sent complaint The Prosecutor General's Office accepted it for review on October 8 and should consider it within a month. According to him, the convicted man is not yet free because the court has not yet heard the appeal, and more than six months have passed. Zaripov was sentenced on April 1, 2024, for "justifying terrorism" for a LiveJournal post to five years in prison; he has been in prison for a year and a half.

"If the appeal had already been successful, we would have filed a petition with the district court and then proceeded with the procedural mechanisms to ensure his release." — says Bubo.

The lawyer has already filed five complaints to various authorities. First, he sought For his client's treatment: he was not taken to the hospital, despite the pain. In August, he appealed to the regional prosecutor's office and the military appellate court, demanding treatment and a change in his pretrial detention. Only the prosecutor's office responded—they forwarded the appeal to Roszdravnadzor. In September and October, there were additional and repeated appeals to the military appellate court to change Zaripov's pretrial detention, but the lawyer received no response.

"Only after I contacted the prosecutor's office did they start to move: they kicked Roszdravnadzor, and they kicked the doctors in the pretrial detention center. But even if he's currently receiving some medical care, we shouldn't overestimate the prison's medical facilities, or even the fact that he might be transferred to city hospitals. Zaripov should already be free." — Bubo is sure.
