Putin approved Russia's updated nuclear doctrine.
The document contains significant changes, including expanded scenarios under which Russian authorities reserve the right to use nuclear weapons. This represents a lowering of the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons compared to the 2020 doctrine.
The main thing:
🔸Aggression against Russia or its allies by a non-nuclear state with the support of a nuclear state is considered a joint attack;
🔸Russia reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in response to the use of weapons of mass destruction against it or its allies;
🔸The decision to use nuclear weapons is made by the President of the Russian Federation;
🔸However, nuclear weapons are considered as a “means of deterrence, the use of which is an extreme and necessary measure.”
Putin signed the updated decree after information appeared in the media that Joe Biden allegedly allowed Ukraine Hit targets within Russian territory with American missiles. The upcoming changes to the doctrine were announced back in September.
