The State Duma is once again trying to reconcile divorcing couples.

A new version of a bill has been introduced to the State Duma, requiring couples with minor children to undergo psychological counseling during divorce proceedings.

A similar law had previously been submitted to parliament, but it called for mandatory psychological counseling for all divorcing couples.

"I introduced a new version of the divorce bill to the State Duma today. Unlike the previous version, I now propose requiring psychologist visits during divorce only if the spouses have minor children together."

— the author of the bill wrote Igor Antropenko on his VK page.

The explanatory note also states that the bill does not entail excessive state intervention in family life. If the spouses refuse to reconcile, they will be divorced after three months.

According to Rosstat, the number of divorces in Russia has increased by more than 20% in four years: if you separated in 2020 564,704 pairs, then in 2023 - 683 796.

In some cases, delaying divorce proceedings can lead to tragedies that are unlikely to be avoided by consulting a psychologist. NeMoskva reported the case of a Yakut woman. Anastasia Ivanova. In April 2024, her husband attacked her when she told him she wanted a divorce. He stunned his wife with a stick, cut off her nose and ear, and severely cut her face. Her children watched the violence. For this, the man was sentenced to 5,5 years in prison. She required several facial reconstruction surgeries, funded by Yakutia residents.
