Leopard Valera will be 15 years old!
Long-lived leopard captured Camera traps at Land of the Leopard National Park in Primorye. Reserve staff identified the spotted predator, Valery, or Leo 15M, as he is known scientifically. He is 15 years old this year.
The national park explained that Far Eastern leopards typically live for an average of 11-12 years. Valera has been captured on camera numerous times—he holds a record for the number of photos and videos. According to the latest monitoring data alone, he has over 400 photos. Valery regularly patrols his territory.
Leopards are recognized by their spots—each has its own unique pattern on its fur. Valery is even more recognizable: he's the only one in the national park wearing a satellite collar since May 2023, when he was captured and planned for relocation. So there's no mistaking him. Although his housewarming party never took place precisely because of his advanced age.
