Hundreds of residents of Chernyakhovsk, Kaliningrad, came to say goodbye to a first-grader who was killed by his stepfather.
Four days ago, more than a thousand people took part in the search operation for the seven-year-old Danila Trekhlebova, however, by that time he was already dead: his stepfather had beaten him to death, and his biological mother had tried to cover up the crime and allowed him to hide the body.
Back in the spring of last year, the kindergarten staff sounded the alarm regarding the child's signs of violence, but the police let the case slide: the boy's mother attributed the bruises to domestic trauma and refused to file a report.
The fact that the first-grader stopped attending school in December didn't alarm anyone. Neither did the broken collarbone with which his 12-year-old sister was hospitalized after the New Year's holidays.
