In Yekaterinburg, a girl was able to obtain compensation for stalking.
A Yekaterinburg resident filed a lawsuit in the Zheleznodorozhny District Court over her ex-boyfriend's persistent attentions. After their breakup, he couldn't leave her alone.
"The ex-partner bombarded the girl with text messages, left love confessions in her mailbox, and drew pictures on her door and the pavement around her home. Anna's attempts to contact the police were unsuccessful," the court's press release stated.
Ultimately, the woman filed a lawsuit, demanding compensation for emotional distress and an injunction against stalking. She explained that her ex-partner had been stalking her since September 2020, causing her to fear for her life and forced her to move and change her phone number.
The defendant did not object to compensation, merely asking for payment in installments. He also stated that he was not intentionally stalking the girl, but simply encountering her by chance, as he lived nearby and was concerned for her safety.
The court partially granted the claim, awarding compensation in the amount of 300 thousand rubles. It was not possible to impose a ban on prosecution, since this is only possible if the defendant has a criminal or administrative case.
In Russia, holding stalkers accountable is extremely difficult, and police rarely respond to such complaints. NotMoscow I previously told the story of a girl named Maria, whose stalker thought the situation was a joke.
