The number of pregnant schoolgirls in the Kemerovo region has increased by a third.

According to official data, in 2024 they became pregnant 515 underage girls (four of them were under 15 years old). This is almost 33% morethan in 2023 - at that time, a child was expected in the Kemerovo region 388 schoolgirls.

Regional Commissioner for Children's Rights Valentina Bogatenko stated that "in order to prevent such cases" in Kemerovo region They conduct preventative talks with both children and parents: doctors explain how to avoid unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

But it seems Kemerovo's medical professionals and authorities have different goals. In early April, the regional government introduced one-time payments of 100 thousand rubles for a “certain category of citizens” – including pregnant schoolgirls.

Authorities in the Oryol and Bryansk regions previously announced similar payments. Experts say these measures are "normalizing an abnormal situation."
