Scientists are being laid off at the oldest nature reserve in Primorye.

Environmentalists in Primorye have appealed to the Ministry of Natural Resources, demanding the repeal of the new regulations in the Lazovsky Nature Reserve and the Call of the Tiger National Park. The appeal has been signed by 49 people.

According to the new regulations, the reserve's scientific department will cease to exist and will be replaced by a monitoring department. рассказал Honored Ecologist of Russia Vsevolod Stepanitsky told "Regional Aspect" that the new staffing schedule was approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources at the initiative of the reserve's director. However, without scientific work, the entire 90-year scientific work at the Lazovsky Reserve could come to naught.

"Conducting research is one of the approved tasks for protected areas. Therefore, by cutting the department in half and removing the most highly qualified staff, the effectiveness of such a management decision is close to zero."

At the same time, three scientists, veterans of nature reserve management, will be fired, although the entire system of nature reserves is extremely short of qualified personnel.

"The director of the institution decided to get rid of opponents this way. He doesn't like veterans with their own opinions, including on environmental issues. He wants his opinion to be the only one."

The cuts were agreed upon on June 2. Experts' appeal registered to the Ministry of Natural Resources on May 5.
