"They come once a week": in a village in Khabarovsk Krai, the post office is open only three hours a week.
Problems with the postal service in the village of Kukan began last year. A local resident, Semyon, complained about the post office's performance in Khabarovsk Krai Governor Dmitry Demeshin's chat group. рассказал According to "Regional Aspect," the post office is located in an old wooden building alongside the local housing and utilities company. The branch is only open on Mondays from 11:00 AM to 16:00 PM.
"We haven't been able to receive our packages this one workday. Either one employee shows up, or they don't have time, or the internet is down. And they don't always show up, only when it's convenient for them," says a village resident.
The postman used to work three days a week, but quit due to low pay. Now he commutes from Khabarovsk—more than 250 km away.
"Recently, it seems like employees are completely unresponsive, rude, and leave early. They arrive, hand out pensions, and everything else falls by the wayside. The nearest city, if we're going to send people there, is 80 km away, and not everyone has their own transport, and the roads are rough," explains Semyon.
Back in 2023, at Russian Post Reported70% of branches are unprofitable, and the premises were offered for lease. Meanwhile, in rural areas, a post office doubles as a store, a bank office where you can collect your pension or pay your utility bills, and a multifunctional center (MFC) branch where you can verify your Gosuslugi profile. And there aren't many tenants for such space.
But due to low wages and unprofitability, post offices are closing. In the Novosibirsk region, for example, about 200 post offices were open only a few days a week due to staff absences. In Mordovia in 2023 closed The village's only "center of attraction" was the post office building. Postmen earned about 2 rubles a month here.
