Large developers intimidate urban conservationists.
New lawsuits against activists in Ryazan

Leaders of the Ryazan branch of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments (VOOPIiK) Andrey Petrutsky и Igor Kochetkov received lawsuits from the construction company "Green Garden - Rowan Grapes" (a subsidiary of the largest construction company "Green Garden").
Heritage activists opposed the construction of a microdistrict that would obscure the Ryazan Kremlin from the Oka River. Soon, residents and tourists from the Kremlin embankment will see a fence of high-rise buildings instead of floodplains.
Despite the activists' efforts, construction in Ryazan is already in full swing, but the developer still filed lawsuits in the Arbitration Court to protect its business reputation. One of them, for example, concerns about the post on VKontakte from 2022, in which urban preservationists ask the head of the Ryazan administration Elena Sorokina (left her post) to prevent the construction of a new high-rise residential complex on the territory of a sleeper impregnation plant.
The developer demanded a retraction of the statement contained in the line: "Elena Borisovna, the developer is eagerly awaiting your decision to break the law."
The lawsuit states that the developer did not violate the law and did not incite Sorokin to do so. There are three similar lawsuits, and the hearing will begin in June.
Deputy Chairman of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments (VOOPIiK) Igor Kochetkov explained to Regional Aspect:
"The goal is to intimidate us and those people who still publish information about illegal construction, violations of environmental laws, and the destruction of not just historical sites, but the entire historical environment. It's also to waste our time, which we could otherwise spend protecting historic Ryazan."
Previously "Green Garden - Rowan Clusters" submitted a similar lawsuit against the oldest member of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments (VOOPIiK) To Alexander BabiyHe is in the final stages of cancer.
