"I broke myself, and then I remembered I don't have children": A public registry of alimony debtors has launched in Russia.

The registry of "malicious debtors" was launched as part of the amendments to the law "On Enforcement Proceedings" that came into force today. It will include citizens who are wanted or subject to administrative or criminal liability for non-payment of child support. At the time of its launch, the database already contained 190 thousands surnames.

No specific restrictions have been introduced for those listed on the registry. However, the Russian Ministry of Justice and the Federal Bailiff Service have already proposed banning debtors from purchasing real estate, taking out loans, using the Gosuslugi website, and opening bank accounts.

Russia consistently ranks among the world leaders in the number of divorces: in 2024 880 thousands marriages had to 644,5 thousand divorces. However, the situation with alimony is no better in the country 1,5 млн enforcement proceedings for their collection, and the total amount of debts exceeded 277 billion rubles. Just last year, a case was filed 54 thousand criminal cases for non-payment of alimony.
