The State Duma has increased fines for foreign agents.
Now, Russian foreign agents will be fined between 30,000 and 50,000 rubles for improperly labeling materials or failing to comply with Ministry of Justice requirements (previously, a warning or a fine of between 500 and 1,000 rubles was sufficient).
For officials, fines will range from 100 to 300 rubles (previously they ranged from two to four thousand rubles).
For legal entities, fines ranging from 300 to 500 thousand rubles are provided.
Those who violated the law while outside of Russia will also be held accountable.
How to said A deputy Vasily Piskarev, small fines did not deter foreign agents from committing offenses.
"The insignificant size of the fines allows foreign agents to systematically fail to comply with the requirements of the regulatory authority," he said.
State Duma deputies voted unanimously for the new amendments. Meanwhile, the State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin saidthat Russia has “the most liberal law” on foreign agents and “one of the lowest penalties” for violating it.
