Yuri Balabonkin, the former mayor of the village of Kumino in the Vladimir region, is unable to begin roofing due to inclement weather. His followers are raising money for a new home on social media after his previous home burned down.
"At first I was waiting for the crew to be free, but now it's raining. As soon as the guys bring the tools, I have to start packing up: the tools are expensive and will get ruined in the rain. It's driving me crazy! The guys promised to definitely have the roof done by the beginning of October. They'll also order and install the windows and doors; the money will last for now. I don't even know how to thank them for their help; I'm at a loss for words."- рассказал Balabonkin to the publication "Regional Aspect".
Yuri Balabonkin became known in the region for his proactive stance: as the mayor of Kumino, he pushed for the cemetery to be cleared and snow removed, and personally appealed to the district administration. In 2021, his house burned down, which Balabonkin attributes to his vigorous efforts to improve the village.
Residents from across Russia are helping him restore his house, having already raised over 1 million rubles through social media. In July, he purchased some of the roofing materials, but rain forced him to postpone construction. Balabonkin updates his followers on the progress of the project weekly: he recently preserved his harvest for the winter and harvested onions and garlic from the garden, but some of the potatoes began to rot due to the moisture.
