The Public Chamber has proposed banning the naming of children with "unpleasant" names.

The head of the Public Chamber commission on demography and “traditional values” Sergei Rybalchenko proposed ban Russians are encouraged to name their children with "unpleasant" names and inanimate objects. He believes a list of names could be compiled and posted on the State Services website. 

"There will certainly be more work for employees, but children will also have fewer problems in the future," the official is confident. 

According to Rybalchenko, this is necessary to protect the child's rights and interests, to prevent them from being teased later for an offensive name. The official added that he is aware of the different nationalities in Russia, and if someone finds the list on Gosuslugi insufficient, they can register their name through the Multifunctional Center (MFC). To do this, they will need to explain their choice and may need to consult with the regional children's rights ombudsman. He promised to involve religious organizations in the work on the list, since Orthodox Christians, for example, were given names by priests, not parents. 

Since 2017 in Russia  introduced a ban on giving names in the form of abbreviations, numerals, numbers, swear words, titles. Previously, there were cases, when parents gave their children names like Lexus, BOCH (human biological object), Privatization, Air Traffic Controller, Zhuzha and others.
