Sanctions imposed and migrants driven away: Krasnodar authorities explained why construction of a new airport was delayed

The 83 square meter terminal was scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2026, but the deadline had to be postponed: now the authorities they say about 2027.

One of the reasons was sanctions, which prevented the import of equipment envisaged in the original project: as a result, the documentation had to be redone and equipment ordered from “friendly countries.”

In addition, in 2025 the Krasnodar authorities banned Migrants are being forced to work on construction sites, which has significantly reduced the workforce. The ousted construction workers are planned to be replaced by workers from India and North Korea (the authorities have not explained why the definition of "migrants" does not apply to citizens of these countries).

Construction of the new Krasnodar airport began in the fall of 2023. The project is estimated to cost 50 billion rubles. The terminal complex will be located three kilometers from the existing one. It is planned to be equipped with 10 jet bridges for boarding aircraft, 40 check-in counters, nine security lines, and five baggage claim belts.

Currently, the facility is 41,5% complete.
