"Fire them and give them a prison sentence, why waste time on trifles?" Russia is once again proposing to increase fines for smoking at work.

The leader of the public movement "Healthy Fatherland" proposed increasing fines for smoking in unauthorized places tenfold. Ekaterina Leshchinskaya.

"Given the trend of declining working-age population in Russia, increasing labor productivity is of strategic importance. Eliminating harmful habits in the workplace directly impacts economic efficiency and the sustainability of businesses," she asserts.

Currently, the fine ranges from 500 to 1500 rubles. However, Leshchinskaya believes such measures are insufficient.

She called for raising fines for smoking to 5-15 rubles, toughening penalties for employers whose employees systematically violate the tobacco ban, and expanding the powers of labor inspectorates and Rospotrebnadzor.

"Where can you smoke, in a cemetery?" "Unfair wages, poor working conditions, and a crappy attitude from management all reduce productivity. But smoking certainly doesn't," "Fire them! Or even jail time, why waste time?" "Apparently, the government has run out of things to do and all the problems are over?" — readers comment on social networks.
