Everything is going according to plan – today we celebrate Yegor Letov’s birthday!
The leading figure of Siberian punk, a legend of the Russian underground, and an idol for millions, would have turned 61 today. But the voices from the window of NeMoskva are eternal, as long as you pay your electricity bill on time and turn up the volume!
Egor (born Igor) Letov was born in Omsk in 1964. He began playing music in the early 80s. In 1982, he formed a rock band with Andrey "Boss" Babenko. "Sowing", in 1984 with Kuzya Uo - the legendary Civil Defense.
The band quickly gained popularity, and not just in Siberia. This irritated the authorities: for example, in 1985, Letov was even sent to a psychiatric hospital for four months for forced treatment.
By the early 90s, he had recorded a dozen and a half albums. He created projects Yegor and the Outcasts, "Communism", "Anarchy", The Gypsies and I with Ilyich, "Enemy of the people"Collaborated with Yanka Dyagileva и Sergei Kuryokhin, in groups Peak Klaxon, Black Lukich и Christs on the Church Porch.
Yegor Letov died on February 21, 2008, of cardiac arrest. He is buried in his native Omsk at the Old Eastern Cemetery. However, even his grave speaks to the legendary punk's enduring popularity: fans flock to it constantly, and fresh notes and cigarettes are always present.
