Arkhangelsk will be replaced by Pyatigorsk: The Bank of Russia announced the new design of the 500-ruble note.
The new banknote will retain its lilac-violet hues to make it easier for people to recognize the denominations, but will be dedicated to the North Caucasus Federal District and Pyatigorsk, the Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia announced. Sergey Belov.
The symbols for the new banknote are planned to be selected through an online vote, in which all Russians will be able to participate.

"And they don't want to replace the rotten pipes in the country?", "What's the big deal? Let's go straight to Beijing.", "Wonderful news! It's good there aren't any other problems.", "Maybe Grozny would be better? With Adamczyk instead of Peter." — Russians are already commenting on the idea of new banknotes.
In March 2021, the Bank of Russia approved the main directions for the development of cash, including the modernization of paper banknotes. Previously depicted Krasnoyarsk, Arkhangelsk, Yaroslavl and Khabarovsk have already been or will be replaced by Novosibirsk, Pyatigorsk, Nizhny Novgorod и Ekaterinburg accordingly. The only things that remained unchanged were Moscow и St. Petersburg.
"As a result of the banknote modernization, all federal districts of our country will be equally represented on banknotes according to the principle: one banknote denomination, one federal district, and the city located within it," — the Bank of Russia explained earlier.
In 2023, new five-thousand-ruble notes entered circulation, with Khabarovsk transformed into Yekaterinburg.
“We had rumors here that this was all because of Furgal and the protests,” — joke residents of Khabarovsk.
