He was born in Moscow, into a family of an architect and a fashion designer. Ilya Lagutenko — he turns 57. On the same day, 15 years later, his legendary rock-pop group “Mumiy Troll” was “born.”

Everyone's wondering what's more rock or pop in rock-a-pop? It's better to discuss this than the most humane way to destroy a particular country.

(About Me)

Grandfather is an architect Vitaly Lagutenko — the author of the first Khrushchev-era buildings.

Grew up in Vladivostok, sang in a children's choir and toured the country.

In 1983, at the age of 15, on his birthday, he founded the rock group “Mumiy Troll” (later “Mumiy Troll”).

When I started “playing in a rock band” as a teenager, I was only 10-15 years removed from Elvis Presley and The Beatles.

In 1992, he graduated from the Far Eastern National University, Department of Chinese Studies. He served in the Navy on the island Russian.

Until the mid-1990s he worked in China и London translator and commercial advisor.

In 1995, at 27, he finally chose a musical career.

In 1997, his band released their debut album, "Morskaya." It became the best-selling album of the year in Russia. The hit "Utekay" (Run Away) entered the top 40 songs that changed the world (according to Rolling Stone magazine).

Mumiy Troll was the first Russian band to leak its music online. Their album "Tochno mercurut aloe" (Exactly Mercury Aloe) was available for download completely free in 2000. I remember, after the millionth download, our ISP called us and said, "Shut up, our servers are crashing."

The author of more than 20 music albums and hits: "Bride", "Vladivostok-2000", "Karnaval.net", "Eto po lyubvi".

In 2007, he was a composer for "Star Factory" Victor Drobysh filed a lawsuit against him in court asking for criminal liability for insulting his honor and business reputation - he did not like the hooligan song that Lagutenko sang with the leader of the group "Kach" Sergey Masterboy (Smirnov) at the Fuzz Award ceremony.

Take us with you, Vitya Drobysh,
We play the trumpet, blah!
We can dance, Vitya Drobysh,
We know how to rock, a-a-a.
Help us break through, Vitya Drobysh,
We came from Mga,
We are needed at the factory,
We are cool guys...

(further - obscene)

I have the impression that they themselves are already sick of being in the world that they have produced.

The court fined only Smirnov, as the author of the song, 50 thousand rubles.

In the 2000s, he starred as a vampire in Night Watch and played himself in Radio Day.

Organizer of international music festivals, participant in charity concerts.

He was the first representative in Russia of the international AIDS organization Population Services International. He is a trustee of the Amur Foundation, which is dedicated to the conservation of Siberian tigers.

According to one version, the bridge to Russky Island in Vladivostok appeared on the 2000-ruble banknote solely thanks to Lagutenko's popular song "Vladivostok 2000."

In 2020, he supported street protests in Khabarovsk.

[They] are connected with the search for an answer to the eternal question for the Far East: who is ours and who is foreign? With whom is it more closely connected—with the East or the West?

On March 2, 2022, a message appeared on the Mumiy Troll website in Russian and English about the end of their concert activities.

The music has stopped. Peace is needed immediately. We will have to start again from scratch and, through suffering and pain, seek mutual understanding and love. Perhaps this music will still be useful.

Lives and works in London.
