Children of migrants will be required to take an oath of allegiance starting at age 14. Otherwise, they will not receive Russian citizenship.

For such a law just now voted State Duma deputies. Previously, the minimum age for taking the oath of office was 18.

If the child refuses to take the oath, the decision to grant Russian citizenship will be considered invalid.

In the explanatory note to the law, the authors indicated that this was necessary “in order to increase patriotic spirit” and a conscious attitude towards the laws.

A mandatory oath for all applicants for citizenship was introduced in 2017; it was not previously required. It is a mandatory requirement for obtaining a passport.

By voluntarily and consciously accepting citizenship of the Russian Federation, I solemnly swear: to observe the Constitution and laws of the Russian Federation, the rights and freedoms of its citizens; to fulfill the duties of a citizen of the Russian Federation for the benefit of the state and society; to defend the freedom and independence of the Russian Federation; to be loyal to Russia, and to respect its culture, history, and traditions.
