A Journey to Nowhere: How the Dyatlov Group Perished

It is believed that the Dyatlov group perished on the night of February 1-2 on the slope of Mount Kholat Syakhl.

In late January, nine tourists led by Igor Dyatlov embarked on a ski trip across the Northern Urals. The group's skill level qualified them for the route. Over 16 days, they planned to ski over 300 kilometers through the remote taiga and mountains of the Northern Urals. The trip was timed to coincide with the 21st Congress of the CPSU. The participants ranged in age from 20 to 38.

When no news of the tour group had arrived by February 20, search teams were dispatched. They first found the tent, and over the next few days, the tourists' bodies.

The exact cause of the death of the Dyatlov group remains a matter of speculation, even though there is an official version and the investigation into the deaths has been completed. NeMoskva looks back at several theories, from the most plausible to the most outrageous.
