Possibly the first in Russia: a fitness club in Yakutsk has increased women's membership fees for the week of their menstrual period.
Yakut fitness club “Idol” since March sells Women's monthly memberships are 37 days long—a week longer than men's. The organization explained that they adopted an Asian practice: women take a week off from training due to menstruation.
This practice is widespread in China and Korea, and this is what inspired the people of Yakutsk. In Russia, similar proposals were found as far back as Berdsk at the BalI fitness studio, but they published their post about it on Instagram a few days later than the Yakuts.
Idol noted that the girls responded positively to the offer. Their post received hundreds of supportive comments.
"Finally, I see women starting to wake up and shape the world for themselves! I'm proud and support them!" "This should be the case everywhere," "I'm proud that this has appeared in Russia, finally some good news," the women write.
The men were divided. Some felt it was unfair and that they, too, needed an extra week if women were committed to equality.
