"In my opinion, this is a desecration." A museum of the history of the North Military District will be built on Mamayev Kurgan.
This became known yesterday, during a meeting of the organizing committee for the development of the memorial park at the foot of Mamayev Kurgan. Volgograd.
The building will be erected on the site of the current illuminated monument bearing the inscription "Victory." The total area of the complex will be approximately 800 square meters.
"The museum's main goal is to commemorate the heroism of the participants of the Northern Military District. And this will be the core concept. The museum will feature a historical section on the background to the event, the theme of the tragedy of the civilian population of Donbas, and the theme of the referendum on the annexation of new regions."- рассказал Director of the Battle of Stalingrad Museum-Reserve Alexey Dementyev.
According to Dementyev, there shouldn't be any funding difficulties. No further details are available yet, as journalists were asked to leave the meeting room. However, this information was enough to anger Volgograd residents over the decision made without their knowledge.

The meeting also adopted a model for the monument, which aims to unite the meanings of the 1941-1945 liberation war and the "SVO" war of conquest. The development of the design and estimate documentation for the monument cost approximately 1 million rubles.
Such exhibitions and museums, designed to unite the Second World War and the "SVO" in the minds of Russians, open and in other cities. However, the idea of building a major museum at the foot of the symbol of victory over fascism arose for the first time.
