St. Petersburg deputies are proposing to screen children at school entrances, like at airports, to prevent them from bringing weapons.
in parliament St. Petersburg discussed adjusting the rules for entering the school at the governor's suggestion Alexandra Beglova.
They proposed, in particular:
🔸install introscopes in schools—installations for contactless inspection of items;
🔸give security guards from private companies the right to inspect schoolchildren’s bags;
🔸prohibit entry into schools for those who refuse to be searched.
According to a State Duma deputy Nikolai Valuev, who attended the meeting remotely, said that schoolchildren are increasingly bringing weapons into school, and overall, "the numbers are frankly frightening."
Head of the anti-terrorism department in the city administration Andrey Romanov stated that the measures being discussed violate children's right to education. The Committee on Legality proposed increasing the number of security guards, noting that the desire to save money sometimes leads to schools being guarded by "Aunt Masha the cleaning lady with a wet rag."
Commentators on the Telegram channel "Rotunda", which published the news about possible searches, the proposed procedure did not approve:
"First, kids are taught patriotism and violence, then the kids bring evil to school... How strange."
"The new school has about 2,000 students. How long will it take to get through that many? People will have to arrive at school about two hours before classes start."
"All of this is just a security theater designed to simulate vigorous activity and utilize budgets."
