The Russian Book Union has developed a list of books that will be labeled in accordance with the law against drug propaganda.

The list includes books published or translated after 1990, according to the Industry List. These include works Vladimir Sorokin, Sergei Lukyanenko, Victor Pelevin and the book "My Limonov» the writer's ex-wife Natalia Medvedeva. 

Among the translated literature that were subject to mandatory labeling were the posthumously published early novel "Gem" Erich Maria Remarque and "the most ambitious work" John Steinbeck East of Eden novels Stephen King "Renaissance" and Thomas Harris Hannibal, Fight Club Chuck Palahniuk, works of a mystic writer Carlos Castaneda, a collection of essay-sketches Ernst Jünger "The Heart of an Adventurer" and also a story Howard Phillips Lovecraft "The Call of Cthulhu"

However, works published in the USSR or translated before 1990 will not be marked.

On March 1, amendments to the Law on Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances came into force in Russia. These amendments provide for criminal and administrative liability for the distribution of literary and artistic works that contain references to drugs. 

Previously, the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media approved a procedure for labeling works of fiction that contain narcotic and psychotropic substances as an "integral part of the artistic concept, justified by the genre." According to the regulations, the labeling includes a warning symbol and a text message on the cover, or a sticker indicating "the presence of prohibited information" if the book was published before September 1, 2025.
