Every year on April 8th, Russian Animation Day is celebrated—a holiday honoring the screenwriters, artists, directors, and animators who create Russian animated films. The day commemorates the premiere of the first Russian stop-motion film, "Beautiful Lucanida," way back in 1912. 

Today, Russian animation offers its viewers any format, any storyline, and any audience. Even for adults, even though it's sometimes disguised as a children's animated series.
