A Voice from a Window in Non-Moscow: The Koryak Tradition of Listing Names Takes on a Modern Twist
Leading soloist of the national ensemble "Koritev" Hope Neyolova I recorded the song "Poitylg'o" in my native Koryak language. The composition is based on an ancient Koryak tradition of listing the names of all relatives and their place in the family tree, accompanied by a drum.
“In the song I name all the relatives of my tribe and tell who they are to me,” Neyolova explained.
The title of the composition "Poitylg'o" refers to the coastal Koryaks who lived in the ancient village for centuries. Itkana, and later settled in the village Guy Penzhinsky AreaThis is where the artist herself comes from.

🎧 The youth ensemble "Koritev" was founded in 2009 in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and is a unique association of Koryaks, Itelmens and Evens, whose ethnonyms are encrypted in the name.
Bringing together young people from the indigenous peoples of the North, the ensemble is a living transmitter of traditional culture: the artists present both authentic folklore numbers, created based on scientific data and the advice of elders, and modern stylized productions.
