More than 78% of Khakassia residents supported the installation of a monument to Stalin, according to Governor Konovalov.

For the monument in Abakan voted 10,6 thousand local residents out of 13,5 thousand respondents, according to a report by the Public Chamber of Khakassia, cited by the head of the republic Valentin Konovalov.

"Friends, thank you for coming to the polling places and expressing your opinions. In its work and decision-making, the government of Khakassia always relies on the voice of the people, the opinion of the majority." — Konovalov wrote on his Telegram channel.

At the same time, 7x7 journalists note that the number of people who took part in the survey is only 2,6 % residents of Khakassia. Moreover, voting took place in government offices that are open until 5:00 PM on weekdays, and the polling rules did not prohibit one person from voting multiple times at different locations. The Khakassia news agency estimates that 20 people could have filled out up to a thousand questionnaires during the five-day vote.

Earlier, members of the All-Russian organization "Children of War" approached the Abakan administration with a proposal to identify a plot of land for the installation of a monument to Joseph Stalin in Victory Park. Subsequently, Valentin Konovalov asked the Khakassia Public Chamber to prepare proposals for organizing and conducting a public vote.

Previously, NeMoskva reported on the growing number of initiatives aimed at bringing Stalin's image back into the public sphere. Thus, in Vologda Over the past year, a third monument to the dictator has been erected, and in Volgograd For ten days a year—Victory Day, Remembrance and Sorrow Day, and other commemorative dates—the city's name is restored to Stalingrad. The local airport already bears the name "Stalingrad," and starting in 2022, there have been regular proposals to return it to the city permanently, despite the fact that most residents, including the former mayor, oppose it.

According to the calculations of the “We Can Explain” project, as of May of last year, 1,000 were installed in Russia and the occupied territories of Ukraine. 120 monuments to Stalin - 105 Some of them appeared during the presidency of Vladimir Putin.
