A legendary long-term construction project from 1968 has been commissioned in Novosibirsk—it will house a hotel complex.

Permission to open a hotel complex on Karl Marx Square, formerly known as the Tourist Hotel, has been signed, the mayor announced. Novosibirsk Maxim Kudryavtsev.

“This is a significant event for Novosibirsk, — the official wrote. — Now, a 200-room hotel, conference halls, a restaurant, exhibition spaces, and underground parking will open here. An exit from the underground metro crossing is also planned."

Construction of the Tourist Hotel began in 1968. Work stopped in the late 70s, and in 1985, construction was completely frozen.

There were numerous theories among city residents about the construction halt: some said quicksand was discovered under the building, others that the country lacked funds for the large project due to the 80 Olympics. Another theory revolved around a crack in the foundation.

Construction was only resumed in 2019. According to the mayor's office, the developer, TURSIB-B LLC, completely rebuilt the old building, reinforced all structures, and increased the height to 25 stories. The new complex stands almost 79 meters tall and covers an area of approximately 56 square meters.

In total, according to the latest data, Novosibirsk More than 20 unfinished non-residential buildings have been identified. "Tourist" became the fifth commercial construction project scheduled for completion in 2026.
