The parents of opposition leader Mansur Movlaev were kidnapped in Chechnya.

That Khava and Movsar Movlaevs taken away to an unknown location, according to Mansur's Instagram page: "The family doesn't know where they are or where they were taken."

A few days earlier, Movlaev’s brother was kidnapped. ZelimkhanAfter this, he ended up in the hospital with serious injuries and still cannot sit or sleep normally. 

"A person unconnected to either politics or the conflict. I look at this logic and call it by its proper name: when they can't get to one person, they pressure them through their loved ones. These are the methods of people who consider themselves above the law." — they comment in Mansur’s support group.

Mansur Movlaev was detained by security forces in Chechnya in 2022 and held in an illegal prison. After escaping, he managed to reach Kyrgyzstan, where he was detained in connection with a case opened in Russia for “financing extremist activity.” The court in Bishkek Sentenced Movlaev to six months in prison and subsequent deportation. He left the country voluntarily to avoid being sent back to his home country.

In May 2025, Movlaev was detained in Kazakhstan and placed under extradition arrest. This year, the country's Prosecutor General's Office ordered his extradition to Russian security forces.

В of Russia Movlaev faces political persecution. Human rights activists previously claimed he informed opposition figures about corruption and kidnappings in Chechnya. The UN Human Rights Committee ordered Kazakhstan not to extradite Movlaev to Russia, citing the risk of torture and extrajudicial execution.
