The International Olympic Committee has lifted sanctions against Russian athletes.
The decision to lift sanctions was made due to the fact that the Russian Olympic Committee no longer "includes regional organizations under the jurisdiction of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine" (in October 2023, Russia was suspended due to the inclusion of Olympic councils from occupied territories, including the "DPR" and "LPR"). сообщается in a press release from the International Olympic Committee.
Membership of the Russian Olympic Committee has been temporarily restored (for how long? (Not reported). However, the decision on displaying the Russian flag and anthem at the Olympic Games has not yet been made.
As the Russian Minister of Sports stated Mikhail Degtyarev, The lifting of sanctions was made possible "thanks to consistent legal and diplomatic work."
"Our country's return to the Olympic family is a green light for international federations to reinstate the rights of all our athletes," — Degtyarev noted.
At the same time, the International Olympic Committee still does not plan to organize events in Russia and will not invite Russian officials to its events.
