How Putin's construction project cut off Khabarovsk villages from the world: the road to Bolshoy Ussuriysky was washed away.
In the suburbs of Khabarovsk, near the village of Korsakovo-2, the only road connecting several villages with the regional capital was completely washed away. As a result, residents of the villages of Osinovaya Rechka, Bychikha, and Kazakevichevo were cut off from civilization.
Residents' warnings were ignored
It's worth noting that local residents asked officials to repair this important road a year ago. However, instead of a full-scale overhaul, they were offered only a temporary detour, which, predictably, couldn't handle the traffic.
Therefore, the disaster could have been avoided if the authorities had listened to the citizens in time. The destroyed road between the villages was actively used by heavy KAMAZ trucks transporting materials for the construction of the border crossing on Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island.
At present, access for motor vehicles has been restored, as Deputy Chairman of the regional government Irina Gorbacheva hastened to report.
Context: Why is Bolshoi Ussuriysky being built only now?
It's important to remember that part of Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island was officially ceded to China between 2004 and 2008. However, there is only one road to the island from the Russian side, and it runs just beyond the village of Osinovaya Rechka.
While the Chinese part of the island has long been successfully developed—a modern park, pagoda, and tourist areas have been erected there—on the Russian side, until recently, there was only a small, semi-abandoned border outpost, a few residential buildings, and summer cottages, most of which were completely destroyed by the flood in 2014.
Undoubtedly, officials delayed construction of the border crossing on Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island for many years. Specifically, potential construction sites were constantly changing, or budgetary funding was simply insufficient. Finally, in 2025, Vladimir Putin once again ordered construction to begin immediately. However, existing rural roads, as experience has shown, were completely unsuitable for the regular movement of heavy vehicles.
New destruction in the region
Furthermore, another important highway in Khabarovsk Krai now needs to be repaired. The floodwaters also destroyed the access road to the villages of Kukan, Naumovka, and Dogordon.
Therefore, these settlements also currently remain cut off from the regional center. However, there are no "presidential construction projects" in this particular area, and it's unknown when the authorities will get around to repairing them. *(The paragraph has been supplemented with context regarding the lack of priority for roads not associated with federal construction projects)*
