They made the smoke and blamed others. The poultry farm that became famous for burning chickens on tires has filed a lawsuit against the Yaroslavl government.

Rybinsk Volzhanin poultry farm, which destroyed chicken carcasses by burning them on car tires this winter due to bird flu, requested to the Arbitration Court with a statement of claim against the regional authorities. 

Volzhanin has several complaints, the main one being the authorities' inaction in declaring a state of emergency. According to the poultry farm's lawyers, the government should have responded more quickly to the threat of a contagious poultry disease. By failing to do so, regional authorities led to a large-scale epidemic and the forced culling of the flock. 

The poultry farm suffered significant losses. It is known that in January, egg production in the region declined By 59%—one of the reasons was the situation at Volzhanin. The poultry farm has resumed operations, but not at full capacity. 

The disposal of the carcasses took place in January and February of this year, and the entire area was suffocated by the combustion products of the meat and tires. The poultry farm director was charged with violating environmental laws. Lyudmila Kosteva fined by 3 thousand rubles.  

Residents of the Rybinsk district, recalling the days of poisoning by acrid smoke, did not sympathize with the poultry farm owner regarding the losses.

Volzhanin's claim has been accepted for processing. If Volzhanin's claims are proven legitimate, the plaintiff will be able to seek damages from the regional government.
