The court declared the SK SOS crisis group an "extremist organization." Representatives of the human rights organization learned of the decision in an official letter almost a month after the ruling was issued.

Statement by human rights defenders on the continuation of their work

Despite the new ban, the human rights team has announced its intention to continue its activities. However, assistance will now be provided in an updated format, taking into account the risks to applicants.

We will continue to work no matter what. For people who turn to us for help, nothing will change. We remain ready to provide consultations, evacuation assistance, and medical and psychological support.

SK SOS also emphasized that they were prepared for the designation as an "extremist organization" in advance. As a result, the team managed to withdraw its volunteers and staff from Russia in advance and also disabled donations from Russian bank cards for the safety of citizens.

What does the SK SOS crisis group do?

SK SOS is a crisis group founded in 2021. The organization helps LGBTQ+ individuals and their families survive danger, violence, and persecution in the North Caucasus.

Therefore, even after the ban, human rights activists plan to remotely support those facing threats to their lives and health in the region.
