In an interview with RT, Tkachuk said that before the war with Ukraine, he was involved in a business related to "engineering." In the fall of 2022, "friends from the SVO zone" asked him to create a kamikaze drone, which quickly gained the status of a "people's product."

The Upyr also became a popular choice due to its modest cost and high combat capabilities. For example, the molded plastic body costs only 200 rubles, while the total cost of the drone is approximately 50 rubles.

In the fall of 2024, Tkachuk met with Putin, who was interested in the history of the creation of the "Ghoul" drone and asked the entrepreneur: "How did you even get to this point in your life?"
