A Voice from a Window in Non-Moscow: The Electronic Magic of Udmurt Traditions and a Melody for Eating Butter

Five diverse Udmurt artists have teamed up and released a collection of songs, "Krez Gur. Southern Udmurt Chants." The performers have given a vibrant new life to the archaic traditional folk songs of their homeland.

Contemporary electronic sound and a connection to the roots

The musical project was created by post-dukes, IVINAVI, pushner, Ladi Sveti, and Stepan Plotnikov. As a result, this EP seamlessly blends contemporary electronic sounds, live vocals, and the captivating magic of traditional instruments.

At the same time, the release was profound and personal, as the artists drew directly on the folklore archives of their ancestral villages. In particular, the musicians sincerely and honestly preserved their strong connection to the past.

Composition of the collection of South Udmurt melodies

The release includes unique archaic compositions with deep historical meaning. For example, it features a chant for eating butter, "Voy siyon gur," from the village of Staraya Shud'ya.

The album also includes the bride's farewell song "Nyl Kelyan Gur," a poignant composition recorded in the village of Novy Utchan. Listeners will also find a wedding chant sung by the bride's relatives from the village of Sarsak-Omga, called "Börys Gur."
