Voice from the Window of Not Moscow: The Magic of Karelian Forests and Ancient Runes
🎧 TUARI— a young Karelian ethnic group from Petrozavodsk, conquering the country's stages with modern arrangements of traditional northern songs. The group masterfully combines Karelian-Finnish folklore, electronic music, elements of Scandinavian style, and indie sounds.
All participants have professional academic and conservatory educations under their belts, and a whole palette of traditional instruments at their disposal. From the chromatic and diatonic kantele (Karelian gusli) to the rare bowed instrument jouhikko.
The project was born in the summer of 2023, when Daria Toivonen together with her fiancé, vocalist and arranger Vsevolod Shain, decided to assemble a full-fledged band for the "Sound of Eurasia" project. Vsevolod mastered sound design from scratch, creating a home studio, and soon a multi-instrumentalist joined the team. Ksenia Prikman and the kantele player Anna Tyutryumova.
In less than a year, the group went from being a local team to performing at the Russia exhibition and forum in Moscow and the World Youth Festival in Sochi.

Fanfact for those who read to the end: the project's name, TUARI, is an old Karelian pronunciation of the name of the group's founder, Daria Toivonen.
