Lawyer Irina Yakymiv secured a FAS inspection over gasoline prices in Rostov.
Lawyer Irina Yakymiv She complained to the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) about the high price of gasoline. The agency found evidence of antitrust violations at one of the Ajax gas stations.
Teboil refill and complaint to the regional FAS office
The gas station operates under the Teboil brand and is part of Lukoil. In July, Yakymiv filed an application with the regional office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), and received a response in early October.
Gasoline prices at the gas station and the FAS warning
According to Yakymiv, at the gas station where she bought gasoline, AI-92 fuel was sold for 99,9 rubles per liter. Meanwhile, the average price in the region was around 70 rubles.
The Federal Antimonopoly Service issued the organization a warning, which was carried out, but in an unusual way: instead of lowering the price of gasoline, the station stopped selling it altogether—only diesel remained.
Claim for damages and the lawyer's position
Now Irina is preparing a lawsuit to recover damages from the defendant—this option is provided for by law.
Yakymiv is convinced that if there were more such requests, there would be fewer gas stations selling expensive fuel, and fuel speculation would be significantly reduced.
Rostov residents react: disputes over gasoline prices
However, the reaction of Rostov residents to her actions was critical. "Damn, they'll make sure there won't be any more gas at 120... At least you can fill up there now. They probably don't have any customers and don't know how to promote themselves anymore." – some write.
"Gasoline is expensive, of course. But who's forcing this crazy Rostov woman to buy it? Walk and you'll be slimmer and healthier." — others think.
Only one comment was in support of the lawyer: "She's a modern-day Don Quixote. She's decided to tilt at windmills. The idea is doomed to failure from the start, as no one has set a price ceiling for a liter."
Irina Yakymiv works as an assistant to a city council deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. Natalia Oskina and deals with social issues.
Gasoline prices in the Rostov region amid shortages
Amid a national gasoline shortage during peak periods, the price of a liter of AI-95 at independent gas stations in the Rostov region ranged from 120 to 150 rubles. Meanwhile, the most popular brand was only available at half of the region's gas stations.
According to Rosstat, the average price on the retail market has decreased slightly by autumn. Fuel shortages continue in some areas.
