Russian courts are breaking records for "terrorism" convictions.

In the first nine months of this year, Russian courts handed down 1865 convictions for "terrorism." This is an all-time record, and most of the cases are related not to terrorist attacks, but to posts and comments.

In just nine months of this year, the courts issued 1865 sentences in respect of 2013 people — this exceeds the figures for the entire last year and is an absolute record.

According to an analysis by the human rights project "First Department," the majority of criminal cases under the article on "terrorism" are initiated not by terrorist attacks, but by the publication of posts and comments (Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation—public calls, justification, or propaganda of terrorism).

The number of people charged with aiding terrorist activity, including financing and donations, is also growing. Owners of crypto wallets that made transfers to organizations banned in Russia are advised to be especially vigilant.

“Assume that this translation has already been found,” says the head of the First Department Dmitry Zair-Bek. - The tools banks and Rosfinmonitoring use to track suspicious payments are rapidly evolving, and law enforcement can now dig through old crypto transactions and find people who thought they wouldn't be affected.

On average, according to human rights activists, military courts send 12 people to penal colonies and prisons every working day. Moreover, the rate is increasing quarter by quarter (there were 449 sentences in the first quarter of this year, 696 in the second, and 720 in the third).

Most cases are processed within two months.
